About Us

Founded by refugees, for the community

LIFE CBO (Low Income Family Empowering) is a non-profit, non-governmental refugee-led organization (RLO) based in Turkana County, Kenya, serving Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement.

Our Story

When and why LIFE CBO was established

LIFE CBO was established on 20 June 2025 by a group of eight refugee members from different nationalities living in Kakuma Refugee Camp. The founding members had seen two persistent problems in their community firsthand: many vulnerable families' children were unable to attend learning institutions due to lack of learning support, and many families faced severe hardship amid a lack of job opportunities and a reduction in international humanitarian support.

LIFE was created to address the needs of vulnerable families in Kakuma and Kalobeyei by providing essential support across livelihood, education, economic empowerment, and community engagement.
